Research Interests

My current research interests are in Web 2.0, inclusive and deliberative democratic theory, political communication, citizen empowerment, and informaton analytics. I am currently engaged in a collaborative research project on enabling public sphere engagement between citizens and local authorities in Ireland and examining the impact on policy development processes. My PhD research focused on democracy in Kenya. It examined the assumption prevalent in the literature that experiences of micro-level democracy result in the acquisition of democratic attitudes and practices thereby contributing towards the forging of a democratic political culture.  PhD dissertation Title: Microcosms of Democracy?
